WNG's Audi 200 quattro Page

UPDATE!
In 2008, I was forced to abandon my 200q. It was disabled due to a number of mechanical difficulties in 2005.  I was unable to remove it from the parking lot for a scheduled (unnecessary) resurfacing.  There was no time to donate it to a worthy successor or charity.  I worked frantically for 24 hours to get it running, or they would forcibly remove it off the property. The fuel pump had seized due to a fuel line break. In the end, a nasty and rude auto wrecker hauled it  off.  Condo/HOA managements are evil entities!

This Web page will continue to exist for the type-44 owners out there who can utilize my repair information.

In 2001, I picked up this Lago Blue 1990 Audi 200 quattro to be my all-wheel drive daily/winter workhorse. For those not familiar with this car, it's a 2.2L turbocharged and intercooled 5-cylinder sports sedan with Audi's quattro all-wheel drive system. Audi ushered in the aerodynamic era to the automotive world with this body style, known as the Type 44.It's coefficient of drag is only 0.30. Even to this day, only a few cars have matched or bettered this.I've always admired the lines of the ground-breaking Type 44 Audi. They still look fresh to this day, thanks to its timeless functional design and durable rust-resistant double-galvanized steel body. These large sedans are deceivingly fast and agile. When Audi entered these 'luxury sedans' into IMSA and TRANS AM racing series, they dominated their RWD competition and won the championship their first year. Eventually, Audi was banned from the series due to "an unfair advantage" from their quattro AWD. Audi also set a closed course speed record at Talledega Speedway, with a race modified Type 44.
With some modification, the robust I-5 can make as much as 225-270 HPreliably. But they are complicated, maintenance intensive beasts, no thanks to the Bosch KE Jetronic CIS mechanical fuel injection system. They are not for the timid, budget-minded, or non-serious shadetree mechanics. They have quite an appetite for parts, and parts are expensive, not to mention the Pentosin fluid coursing through its hydraulic system!Better known as 'Green Gold'.
